How To Dye Old White Cotton Towels Yellow With Turmeric!

White towels are beautiful, until they've been used so many times that they're more of a grayish brown than white. Sometimes dingy stains are so bad that even bleach and oxygenated cleaners can't save them. That was the case with my 2 white cotton hand towels.

I decided to dye them yellow with turmeric to make them look beautiful again. It was such an easy, rewarding, and frugal little project, I just had to share.

Here is what you will need to get started:

Materials:
- cotton item that you wish to dye.
- 1 tsp turmeric powder (Use more if you want a darker yellow. I wanted a pale yellow)
- 2 tbsp salt
- stainless steel pot
- water
- wooden spoon
- stove

Directions:

1. Fill your pot with water and add the salt. Bring the water to a rolling boil for 10 minutes to dissolve salt.

2. Add your cotton item to the salt water and continue to boil for another 10 minutes.

3. Remove your cotton item and add the turmeric to the boiling water. Stir it around to dissolve thoroughly.

4. Add your cotton item back to the solution and continue to boil for 20-30 minutes. Make sure to stir and move the fabric around frequently so that the dye coverage is even.

5. Remove the item from the solution and rinse it well in the sink under warm water until the water runs clear.

6. You can now wash, dry, and use your new yellow item!
